Miranda was born in New York City on January 16, 1980. His name Lin-Manuel was inspired by a poem about the Vietnam War, written by José Manuel Torres Santiago. Lin-Manuel Miranda held off on getting Instagram for a long while. Since 2009 he used Twitter as his primary social media account, and has 3.6 million followers on the platform. On one of his Twitter posts in 2017 he stated “Listen, I don’t have the instagram, Forward old Man Miranda the good good #Ham4Alls on the ‘gram”. As a child Lin-Manuel spent a month each year in Puerto Rico with his grandparents who lived in Vega Alta. This inspired Lin-Manuel to learn about its’ history. He wrote the famous broadway musical Hamilton after reading Ron Chernow’s biography Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the USA whose from the Caribbean. When Lin-Manuel Miranda was just a sophomore in college he wrote the musical ‘In The Heights’ which was performed at Wesleyan’s theater company. The musical was revised in 2002 and went on to become a Broadway musical in 2008. Miranda also created the playwright and wrote the songs for ‘Hamilton’ and co-wrote music for Moana and Encanto. ‘In The Heights’ was nominated for 13 Tony awards.
